Apple Releases First Iphone Trucking Application

In an economy that is struggling, exhibiting an increase in job loss, has a stock market declining and possesses numerous other indicators that would suggest that things are “really getting rough out there,” there appears to be an obvious and peculiar area of positive growth displayed in America: mobile phone applications.

Mobile phone applications are one of the hottest trends on the market today. They allow a standard mobile phone user to have far greater capabilities than just the ability to make a phone call. A user can now have a GPS system, play a game, know where to find a date, how to play a guitar, where to eat and the list goes on and on. These applications which have been created address almost every targeted segment of the population. However, one area which has been sadly neglected and overlooked is the professional truck driver. With over 8 million CDL ( commercial drivers license) holders and over 3 million active truck drivers, this huge audience and their needs continue to be passed by and forgotten: up until now.

Recently, a mobile phone application has been created and designed especially for the professional truck driver. Truck drivers now have the ability to locate many of their most common daily resources at the touch of a button. The new iPhone application, “Trucker,” has been designed to address such needs as: official government trucking links, lowest fuel prices, mileage calculator, truck stop locator, truck repair services, weigh scale locator, job finder, trucking forums, freight locator, emergency links, and many other aspects that concern drivers.

One of the reasons the professional truck driver remains consistently overlooked, is the fact that most of the population just does not understand what a trucker requires or goes through on a daily basis. Most people think of trucks on the road as a nuisance, nothing more than just large vehicles that they have to share the road with and that is about it.

They rarely if ever, will stop to think that everything they use on a daily basis has come by way of a truck and the driver. They also do not realize the sacrifices truckers endure such as spending weeks away from family and friends. The extensive hardships for over the road truck drivers is a long list and the Trucker App offers them just one area which can make their life a little simpler and a bit more convenient.

Truck Drivers can sometimes have many hours of unwanted idle time when their deliveries and pick ups are either late or postponed. This can give drivers unexpected “free time,” which can be both lonely, boring, and even stressful (they are not earning money when the wheels are not rolling). Many of the truck stops have movies and other such recreational activities, but for those who just want to stretch out in their truck for awhile or find themselves isolated and not near the comforts and conveniences of a truck stop, the Trucker iPhone application can offer them good reading, information, and even entertainment. When added to the other applications that the iPhone has to offer, this dreaded idle time can be turned into productive and enjoyable free time.

Within the application Trucker, there are informational PDF's to read , YouTube videos to enjoy or Trucking pod cast shows to listen to. They can read a blog, join in on a forum, or look up the latest industry news. They can also take photos from their truck and then e-mail them in to be rotated on the front page of the Trucker application. If they have made a video, they can email the URL and share it with the other Trucker Application users. The Trucker iPhone app is not the end all solution for a difficult life on the road, but it does bring a little more convenience and can add some extra fun to a deserving truck drivers' life.
